What is Reiki

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an ancient technique for reducing stress, promoting relaxation and encouraging the body into a balanced and healed state of well-being. It is a gentle, subtle, yet powerful energy healing art.

Rei is the spiritual energy of the (Ki) life force. Ki is the same as Chi in Chinese, Ki in Hawaiian, Prana in Sanskrit, and Orenda in Native American, just to name a few. Every culture has a word for this life force except the American culture. There is no equivalent for the word Chi in the English language.

The medical community is growing increasingly interested in Reiki. More than 1.2 million adults and 161,000 children had used an energy-healing therapy, such as Reiki, in the previous year, according to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey. Many hospitals offer Reiki as a standard part of patient care.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, a respected cardiovascular surgeon, introduced millions of viewers to the natural healing practice of Reiki on his TV program in 2010.
